What's your Coldplay Top 15?

Evaluating a song is difficult. The great song must not be a passing fad. It must stand the test of time and continue to endure. That is how favorites are made and good songs distinguished from average songs, great songs from good songs. Therefore, much goes into play when considering my top 15 Coldplay tunes. Lyrics, melody, harmony, sound are objective. The individual life setting and experience are subjective. They all converge and form some kind of basis for comparison. Enough said, here's my list:

1) Don't Panic*
2) See You Soon
3) We Never Change
4) The Scientist
5) Careful Where You Stand**
6) Trouble***
7) In My Place
8)
Brothers and Sisters****
9) Shiver
10) Clocks
11) Square One
12) Warning Sign
13) Yellow
14) Fix You
15) A Rush Of Blood To The Head

** Some songs never get old; they get better with age. Those are the songs you can listen to three times straight and you still want more! "Don't Panic" is that song for me. The only knock is the length but it is long enough to lure you in and make you want more of it.

**Honestly, this song is the bait. It got my attention the way Yellow failed to do.

***If "Careful Where You Stand" is the bait, then undoubtably, "Trouble" is the hook. It's that simple. Hearing Trouble for the first time at Pacsun really lured me in. I couldn't shake the tune out of my head for months.

****Quality of song makes a difference. I had previously owned a copy of the live version. I liked it but I wouldn't have ranked it this high. However, this past weekend I was introduced to a cleaner, purer version of the song and it blew me away. The added quality transformed this song from good to very good.

Here's my Coldplay Top 15. There are a lot of the same songs in our list, but in different positions. There is a good mix of all 3 albums. If Parachutes was longer, it would a lot higher. Maybe even top 5. Even though Shiver brings back memories of unrequited love, it is still my favorite. What else is the fall for besides being the time of year when everyone falls in love.......and college football?

Shiver
Careful Where You Stand
Don't Panic
A Warning Sign
Speed of Sound
Trouble
We Never Change
X&Y
Fix You
Amsterdam
Brothers and Sisters
Clocks
The Scientist
The World Turned Upside Down
Parachutes

I don't know if you or Wes recall who I am, but I'm friends with Sandy Young. In fact, Wade, myself and the tall man named Daniel had a Bible study with Sandy for about a year (I think) while at Tech. Anyways, here is my Coldplay top 15:

1.Spies: A surprise pick, probably. However, I enjoy this as one of the best flowing songs I’ve ever heard.

2.Clocks: A trendy pick, but the song is good enough to transcend trendy.

3.Yellow: Interesting lyrics and interesting language. The words stand out, imo.

4.Fix You: IMO, it expresses everyone’s desire to someone how be fixed. Therefore, it’s our acknowledgement that something is wrong!
5.Politik

6.Talk

7.White Shadows

8.Square One: A very underappreciated song.

9.Don’t Panic

10.God Put A Smile On Your Face

11.Shiver

12.Speed of Sound: not enamored with song as are seemingly others.

13.Kingdom Come

14.Everything’s Not Lost

15.Low

Blessings,
Ben Vastine
